Annual review checklist: fifteen minutes, once a year

Fifteen minutes a year is enough to make sure the policy does exactly what it was taken out to do. This checklist is the checkable version of the anniversary routine – the explanations are in the anniversary article.

In brief:
  • Six points: the indexation decision, the sum, the beneficiary, details, premium payments, the folder.
  • The natural moment is the anniversary — the insurer's letter is the starting point.
  • After a major life change, there is no need to wait for the anniversary.

When should you go beyond the checklist?

If you get stuck on any point – the sum has fallen meaningfully behind, the beneficiary needs updating, the premium has become difficult – that is no longer a checklist matter but a conversation: amendment, premium difficulty, or a policy review. For my clients who let me know before the renewal date, I carry out the review – but this list is still useful even then: everyone arrives at the conversation prepared.
