The first conversation: what to expect from me

Before the first conversation, it is natural to wonder: what should I expect? The short answer: twenty calm minutes in which I will ask questions and answer yours – and nothing of what people usually worry about: pressure, deadlines, obligation.

In brief:
  • The conversation is free of charge and without obligation – it can start by phone, video, or email, whichever suits you.
  • Its backbone is a few simple questions: your situation, your intentions, existing arrangements, and your budget.
  • It always ends with one clear next step – which may simply be that no action is needed.

How does it start?

You can book a time in my calendar – for a phone or video conversation, at a time that suits you. No preparation is needed: there is no need to gather documents or know figures in advance. If you already have insurance or savings set aside for this purpose, mentioning it is helpful – but we can look into the details together later. Another family member is welcome to join: for older clients, this is genuinely good practice.

What is covered? – the backbone of the conversation

A few simple questions: Who is this about – yourself, a parent, a married couple? What is the intention – putting things in order, easing the burden on your family, a specific life situation? What is already in place – insurance, savings, a burial plot? And what is the budget – what monthly premium would sit comfortably? My questions are tactful and targeted: I only ask what is needed to find the right direction. You get to ask questions too – that is what the question list is for, if you like to arrive prepared.

What you will not hear

You will not hear pressure – I never say "you have to decide now." You will not hear scare tactics: the subject is served with facts, not fear. You will not hear categorical promises about speed or exclusivity – no one can honestly make such promises. And you will not hear persuasion: if your situation does not call for a new product, I will say so – that is part of my role.

What is the outcome?

Always one clear next step. If a comparison makes sense: I prepare the offer table with the insurers that could be relevant – for this I ask for a few details (date of birth, the sum you have in mind). If a family conversation is needed first: I give you points to consider, and we wait. If there is nothing to do: I say that too, and we stay in touch. The decision is yours at every point – my job is to help you see it clearly. The next step is covered in the needs-assessment article.
